EZLN (Zapatista Army of National Liberation)
We are contributing to the support of the Zapatista communities of Chiapas, by way of selling some of the handmade products these indigenous communities make and sell, in order to survive and continue to fight for their autonomy and dignity in Mexico.
Their first rebellion was in the mid-90’s in San Cristóbal de las Casas- a well documented moment in history for Mexico and indigenous people. The EZLN used arms in order to draw the attention and eyes of civilian Mexican people and the government. Their hope was to render their guns useless in place of being heard.
Once they had the attention they sought, it became apparent that organising themselves into fundraising productive communities would help them in their quest for independence, peace and respect.
