Tonalamatl represents a Nahuatl divinitory ‘book of days’.

This was used in birth rituals to predict the destiny of an individual - their skills, their nature and the dangers that would be faced for every new human being during their life. It features 20 ‘day signs’ in total (ten of which are depicted in Part 1 of this exhibition).
